Syllabus: | An introduction to the occupational health and safety professions. General awareness of hazards, risk, occupational, health and safety law and hazard management. Studies the importance of health and safety and the focus of a multi-disciplinary approach. Report writing, research and oral presentation skills. Experience to include routine inspections of workplaces and submission of reports. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Understand the role of the Occupational Health and Safety professional. Understand the basic principles of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1984. Identify the roles of WorkSafe WA, Workcover and Department of Minerals, Petroleum and Energy with regard to Occupational Health and Safety. Understand the principles and processes of hazard identification and apply this in the workplace. Understand the cultural and ethical considerations for occupational health and safety in the workplace. Understand the principles and processes of accident investigation and apply this in the workplace. |
