Syllabus: | Overview of international health, patterns of disease and health in developed and developing countries, resurgent and emergent diseases, health impact of globalisation, the background and context of primary health care, health program policy, health and development, the socio-cultural context of health and illness, the economics of health care, health and community development, community participation, common and major health problems, family planning and reproductive health. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this Unit students will have- Critically reviewed the relevance and scope of international health. Compared and contrasted major patterns of, and differences in, morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing countries. Critically appraised the particular health problems of deprived and isolated communities in both developed and developing countries. Have an in-depth understanding of the impact of resurgent and emergent disease in the global context. Demonstrated awareness of the characteristics, history and scope of primary health care in an international setting. Identified the inter-relationship between social science, epidemiological and biomedical approaches to primary health care. |
