Syllabus: | Historical perspective on STI and HIV, current global trends in the epidemiology of STI and HIV, who carries the burden of STI and HIV, social, cultural and gender issues, political, economic and legal influences on transmission, minimising the impact of STI and HIV, international programs and projects, the future risk and vulnerability of communities to STI and HIV. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this Unit students will have- Described the historical and current global STI and HIV situations and who carries the burden of disease. Outlined the social, cultural and gender issues associated with the transmission of STI and HIV. Conceptualised the underlying political, economic and legal influences on the transmission of STI and HIV. Identified the synergism between STI and HIV and other diseases. Identified essential elements involved in reducing the transmission of STI and HIV. Outlined the nature of international programs and projects aimed at reducing STI and HIV transmission. Analysed the risk and vulnerability of communities to STI and HIV in the future. |
