Syllabus:

Technological opportunities and constraints, comparison of traditional and alternative approaches to presentation, selecting technologies for learning, utilising technological convergence, software for developing learning materials, the user interface, introduction to multimedia development, global communication and open learning, supporting learning at a distance, providing flexible learning opportunities and future directions.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Given an account of the concepts and processes of open learning and flexible delivery. Discussed the capabilities and characteristics of supporting technologies for distance and open learning. Chosen media appropriate to the needs of the instruction and the learner in a range of educational contexts. Used a principled basis for selecting a particular technology to support open learning. Compared and contrasted the educational potential of a rangeof technologies, including prints, telecommunications and computer based instruction and network learning. Planned and designed learning resources to support learners in a range of contexts. Evaluated programs and materials designed for distance education and open learning and be able to use this information to modify these programs and materials.
