Syllabus:

Development of the foundation competencies in understanding human cardiorespiratory and neural physiology. Selected topics in cardiorespiratory physiology include - responses to exercise, exercise testing, exercise prescription, patient assessment and sputum clearance. Selected topics in neurophysiology include - peripheral afferent influences on motor control, central influences on motor control, pain mechanisms.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - An introduction to the metabolic pathways and energy systems of the human body and to the physiology and neurophysiology of the muscular system including muscle performance and strength training. An introduction to the physiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the clinical manifestations of pulmonary and cardiac disease.
