Syllabus: | Introduction to the basic mechanics of slope failure. Defect and rock mass shear strength. Groundwater effects. Slope failure mechanisms and their analysis. Pit slope design. Slope formation techniques. Slope monitoring techniques and interpretation. WA regulatory framework. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to identify the common types of rock slope failure. Undertake deterministic, probabilistic and numerical analyses of slope stability. Undertake risk-based slope design optimisation. Design - implementation methods for slope designs, monitoring systems for mine slopes and dams on mine sites. |
