Syllabus: | Theories of Evolution: The neo-Darwinist theory of evolution, evidence for evolution, other theories; Primate Evolution: the primate order, humans as primates, early primate evolution; Hominid Evolution: Hominid evolution from beginnings in the Plio-Pleistocene through to modern times. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have- Assessed current ideas on human physical evolution in the light of evolutionary biology principles. Demonstrated specific practical skills associated with analyzing and evaluating fossil remains to extract maximum information, making inferences, and techniques for classification of biological material. Demonstrated competence in the general skills of science, viz the processing, display and statistical analysis of data, hypothesis testing and report writing. Displayed mastery of the intellectual skills associated with the retrieval of information from text, reference, journal, online and other sources, and the ability to evaluate and synthesize that information. |
