Syllabus:

The road use-characteristics. Measurement of traffic flow. Use of statistical techniques, before and after studies. Planning and location of highways. Geometric design of highways. Highway types, capacities and standards. Capacities and design of intersections.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have developed an understanding of the analytical approach to the composition and behaviour of traffic, its demands on the road system, and a working knowledge of the functional design of highways.
