Syllabus:

Latest developments in hospital transfusion medicine including molecular genetics of blood groups, antibody resolution, role of computers and clinical aspects of transfusion, future developments and current controversies
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit the student will have - Developed a sound knowledge of the major human blood groups of red cells, platelets and neutrophils. Developed a sound understanding of antibodies, their clinical significance and their laboratory investigation. demonstrated the ability to discuss organisational issues in the modern hospital transfusion service. Developed an appreciation of the clinical aspects of transfusion. Be able to present likely future developments and trends in hospital transfusion services.
