Syllabus: | Introduction to the basic concepts and principles of process design, including selection of equipment, safety issues and simple economic analysis. Use of computer simulation packages for process design, including Hysys and ASPEN. Exercises in process integration using computer aided process design techniques in simple design projects. |
|
Unit Outcomes: | Master the basic concepts and principles of process design. Integrate knowledge learnt in other chemical engineering subjects and apply the knowledge in process design projects. Draw process flow sheets of a process and establish starting points for subsequent computer analysis. Select equipment items and associated safety issues. Know how to use a computer simulation package to solve process design problems. Perform simple economic analysis of a process design and optimise the design. |
