Syllabus:

Catalyst properties and catalytic reactions, design of catalytic reactors, catalyst deactivation mechanisms and rates, moving bed reactors and transport reactor, gas-liquid reactions on solid catalyst in trickle bed and slurry reactors. Fluid-fluid reactions - kinetics and reactor design, non-linear behaviour of reactors, reactors for ultrafast reactions, biochemical reaction systems including enzyme and microbial fermentation. Mathematical modelling and analysis of multiphase reaction systems.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Advanced skills and application of reaction engineering techniques to a range of chemical engineering problems. Outcomes will reflect the level of the enrolled student at postgraduate level, ie certificate, diploma or masters.
