Syllabus: | Introduction to the macro and micro-economic context and aspects of social policy, including the intersection between social policy and other policy fields or considerations such as taxation, labour market and competitiveness. Will examine the impact ofcompeting economic discourses on social policy - neoclassic, liberal and social-democratic Keynesian, post-Keynesian, institutionalist and feminist. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Critically appreciated the complex relationship between the market economy and policies that seek to modify market processes and outcomes, and of the various theoretical frameworks in which that relationship between politics and markets might be viewed, including the putative equity/efficiency trade off. |
