Syllabus:

Management and its evolution. Management leadership in relation to current conditions. Policy formulation and implementation. Human resourses management. Communication. Budgeting. Layout and design of accommodation. The legal framework within which information managers work. Security, safety. Marketing and public relations. Organisational culture. Performance evaluation.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will be able to- Discuss the evolution of management theories. Discuss the role of a leader or manger. Utilise the concept of Strategic Planning in setting out and achieving the goals and objectives of an organisation.Develop a strategy for staff recruitment, training and evolution. Maintain harmonious relations with and between any staff you may be responsible for and ensure that they have safe working conditions. Produce a budget for both long term and short term projects. Draw up a proposal for the design or refurbishment of a library or an information centre. Detail the steps necessary when introducing automation to your organisation. Ensure the success of the service for which you are responsible by exhibiting an entrepreneurial attitude and awareness of the key role of the service.
