Syllabus: | Planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs within specific settings. Application of specific models and theories. Focus on traditional settings including schools, health care, community, Aboriginal, rural and remote, international and worksite. Discuss health promotion in non traditional settings including the Internet, nightclubs/pubs etc. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Formulate a rationale for using a particular setting for the delivery of health promotion. Describe and analyse the features of a health promoting setting. Identify and analyse issues associated with planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs in specific settings. Develop a journal article focusing on issues associated with implementing health promotion in a specific setting (eg: worksite, hospitals, community, schools,prisons). Describe the behavioural and structural (policy, environmental, organisational) intervention strategies suitable for health promotion programs in different settings. Identify and critique cases of health promotion programs in different settings. Identify and suggest strategies to overcome barriers to effective settings-based health promotion programs. Examine the relative merits of using worksites, schools, communities, hospitals etc as settings for health promotion. |
