Syllabus: | Practice of development in the Third World. Critical analysis of the range of approaches to designing, implementing and evaluating development projects. Topics include - the project cycle in planning, understanding the project environment, logical framework analysis, participatory and control-oriented management techniques. Students must produce a major research project. |

Unit Outcomes: | * Knowledge of the main types of development projects including management techniques, funding arrangements and impacts on local communities. * An understanding of how development policy articulates with development practice. * The analytical skillsto critically evaluate the range of management techniques currently applied in development practice. |
