Syllabus:

An examination of nutrition and exercise management. Chronic complications and clinical management. Behavioural responses to chronic illness, facilitating coping through social support structures, empowerment, crisis intervention and counselling skills. Strategic management, change, finance, leadership and quality improvement. Health service and health promotion planning with a multicultural and indigenous population.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Determine best practice in the nutritional and exercise management of diabetes mellitus. Demonstrate competency in the delivery of best practice treatment guidelines for people with chronic complications of diabetes mellitus. Evaluate the implications ofliving and coping with a chronic illness like diabetes. Demonstrate helping skills and recognise the role of skilled counselling for individuals with diabetes. Facilitate client empowerment in self-management and behavioural changes to life style. Incorporate the principles of health promotion practices into quality diabetes programs. Apply management principles to the provision of diabetes services for a multicultural and indigenous population.
