Syllabus: | Theories of counselling relevant to clinical practice and development of interpersonal skills for the health service provider. Critical reflections on assumptions in counselling in the health professions. Counselling roles and their limitations. Ethical issues. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will - Demonstrate basic competence in the micro-skills of counselling. Demonstrate competence in the performance of a counselling role that is appropriate for the health service provider. Recognise the counselling roles of different health service providers and understand the process of referral and utilisation of different professional groups. Demonstrate an understanding of ethical principles in relation to counselling. Demonstrate and understanding of relevant theoretical bases of counselling. |
