Syllabus: | Scientific and engineering approach to mine design. Input data for initial mine design. Underground design - geomechanical evaluation and rock properties, application of numerical modelling and limitations, design methods of dimensioning stopes and pillars. Design considerations for various mining methods, primary and secondary development excavation design, blast design, cost and productivity estimates, stope services design and materials handling. Open pit design, design process in open pit mining, cut-off grade analysis, bench slope, haul road and pushback design. Drilling and blasting design. Applications of CAD systems in mine design. Design principles and discussion of case studies. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Understood the principles of open pit and underground mine design. Applied design principles in the design of various mining methods. |
