Syllabus: | Professional communication as a practice within a wider community. Contexts and conventions of a wide range of texts - article and freelance arts writing in arts journals, articles, reviews, newsletters, in-house journals and CD. Objectivity and subjectivity in the production of texts, power and language, gendered language, cross-cultural literacy, and the use of technology - mediated research tools. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Developed an understanding of feature writing in terms of market, types and structures, the way ideas are generated and developed. Critically analysed a variety of feature stories in terms of theprinciples of story telling. Developed skills and techniques in writing a story proposal or theme, interviewing, using direct and indirect speech, developing character, descriptive writing, writing leads, creating transitions and finding end points. Edited their own work and the work of others. Produced a portfolio of feature stories suitable for submission for publication. |
