Syllabus:

Focuses on the production of cultural meanings and issues of control of production and constraints on creative practices. Explores the notion of the culture industry, encompassing such fields as media and communication, the visual arts and literature. Deals with topics related to cultural policy.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Reviewed the concept of 'the Enlightenment project' as a product of modernity. Examined the concept of aesthetic modernism as registering the implications of modernity. Explored contemporary debates about the nature of postmodernity and postmodernism, and the difference between them. Further developed and enhanced scholarly research skills in cultural studies.
