Syllabus:

Exploration of the interface between subjective positions and social and cultural contexts. The body and difference, personal, local, global and national identities, communities and diasporas, multiculturalism, social meanings and cultural myths.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Established cultural studies definitions of modernity/modernisation. Enabled an understanding of the emergence of modern thought through a recognition of key moments, intellectual movements and figures, the establishment of the idea of Europe, the scientific revolution, the enlightenment, the industrial revolution, the philosophies. Examined the key texts of modernity intertextually.
