Syllabus:

Management of services impacting on community and individual health determinants through functions of planning, finance, marketing, human resources and law. Dynamic nature of industrial relations, decision-making, work organisation, motivation, leadership and conflict. Interactions of organisations and influence of societal change through the organisational management process.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Distinguish between relevant approaches to budgeting, marketing, human resources management and legal applications required to coordinate and operate as a manager in a variety of work environments. Analyse the use of appropriate components in the organisational planning process through the consideration of political, economic, socio-cultural, demographic and geographical influences over services. Evaluate organisational structures, and the roles and influence of government, corporate sector and voluntary agencies in relation to health services delivery. Evaluate the theories and characteristics of contemporary and historical management and leadership styles. Evaluate how cultural determinants of health and a global market place influence the delivery of health services in the international arena.
