Syllabus: | Patterns of social inequality in Australian society to class, gender, ethnicity and age. Cross-cultural communication. Patterns of health and illness in multicultural communities. Historical context of immigrant health. Health status and barriers to service delivery. Aboriginal health, historical context of traditional health beliefs and practices. Aboriginal initiatives in change. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an awareness of variations in patterns of health and illness across ages, with different cultures socio-economic groups and communities. Critically evaluate anthropological perspective on health and illness. Identify strategies for appropriate health care delivery in a multicultural society. An understanding of the historical and sociocultural context of aboriginal health status. |
