Syllabus: | Study of narrative as a genre through the reading of various narrative texts - short and long prose, fiction, including popular sub-genres such as fantasy fiction, science fiction or detective fiction, film and historical narratives. The theory, structures and history of the genre, the relationship to cultural change. The contexts of modernity and postmodernity in contemporary texts. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the concept of narrative in relation to culture. An understanding of the concept of cultural instrumentality. An understanding of the key terms informing the field of narrative theory. Read a range of genres in relation to the above concepts. |
