Syllabus:

This is a foundation unit for Film and Television students that provides an introduction to the history of cinema and to the study of film as art, entertainment, communication and social practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will have demonstrated - A depth of knowledge of the history and development of cinema. An informed appreciation of film as art, entertainment, communication and social practice. An understanding of, and an ability todescribe the major genres of films. A willingness and capacity to lead and contribute to intelligent and critical discussions of films,both orally and in writing, in an environment informed by this knowledge and experience of theories and dicourses appropriate to such discussion. An ability to relate analytical, theoretical, and critical principles and processes to a range of films studied both in and outside class.
