Syllabus: | There will be preparatory work and readings for many of the sessions. You will be expected to make full use of online resources. Visits to Galleries or other venues in Perth will be recommended where appropriate to the content of a session. In addition you are also be expected to access relevant professional design and technological expertise that is appropriate to your own presentations. A formal course work unit and participation in classes is required. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Demonstrated an understanding of contextual issues relating to design in its social and cultural context. Written coherently about design and design research. Reflected on your own professional practice. Understood the importance of ethical and philosophical considerations in design related activities. Used the materials studied to inform future professional practice. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | Assessment (1) 10%. Assessment (2) 10%. Assessment (3) 80%. This is by grade/mark assessment. To pass this unit you must complete three assessments. The two seminar presentations are planned so that you get feedback on your progress during the unit. The third written assessment (an essay of 3000-5000word s) will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your overall understanding of design issues. |
