Syllabus: | Principles and techniques of spatial data collection - angles, distances, bearings, polar and rectangular coordinates. Surveying measurements - traverse, radiation, point positioning. Principles and strategies of data collection for GIS using total stations and GPS. Data recorders and electronic fieldbooks. Processing and computations - two and three dimensional coordinate systems, data checking and verification, survey data reduction, integration of survey data to GIS. Data quality. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated a professional and generic understanding of the geometronics of surveying, have an understanding of the principles of spatial data and its collection for GIS, understood the relationships between angles, distances and bearings, the ability to understand the processing and computations of two - and three - dimensional coordinate systems, become adept at making survey measurements, traversing, radiating and point positioning. and critically analysed and integrated survey data to GIS. |
