Syllabus: | Internal and external drivers and shapers for companies to consider cleaner production and eco-efficiency, in particular, environmental policy - cleaner production strategies and policies, regulation, economic instruments, voluntary environmental agreements and extended producer responsibility. Sustainability and business strategy - global sustainability scenarios, triple bottom line management, corporate social responsibility. Environmental economics - economic impacts of environmental regulation, environmental management accounting and life cycle costing. Environmental performance measurement and environmental and sustainable development reporting. Students are to attend a three hour lecture once every three weeks. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Become familiar with environmental laws, policies and developments, in particular concerning the promotion of Cleaner Production and Eco - Efficiency. Been acquainted with concepts, methodologies and practices of industrial environmental economics and their role in motivating enterprises to undertake Cleaner Production and address the sustainable development challenges. Also become sensitive to the roles of interest groups in helping or hindering organisational transition to Cleaner Production and Eco - Efficiency. |
