Syllabus: | Examination of the origins and history of environmentalism, the environmental movement and the role of geographers in environmental planning/management. Environmental perception and natural resource management issues are examined with examples drawn fromagriculture, pastoralism, fisheries, mining, tourism and recreation, urban development and transport. Biodiversity and bioregional planning. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - An appreciation of the historical development of environmentalism and the environmental movement. Emergence of environmental management/planning. principles of sustainable land use and relevant developments in applied research in geography. A broad understanding of natural resources and natural resource management through an examination of key relevant issues. Undertaken fieldwork examining specific issues in environmental management. Developed relevant research skills in map interpretation, data collection and analysis and field observation. |
