Syllabus:

Exercise and Australian population. Energy systems and the physiological response. Principles of exercise programming. Fitness assessment. Programming for aerobic conditioning, strength-resistance training, and flexibility. Nutrition, exercise and weightcontrol. Motivation and relapse strategies. Exercise myths and fallacies. Exercise programs in practical settings and for special populations.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Outline where physical activity fits into the new public health. Outline recent targets and goals for physical activity in Australia and overseas. List the health benefits of regular physical activity. Discuss principles and prescription of physical activity for different groups. Show the steps involved in promoting a physical activity initiative. Identify strategies, barriers and enablers for different target groups and settings. State examples of national, state and local physical activity programs in Australia. Plan, implement and evaluate a physical activity program in your community.
