Syllabus:

Behaviour modification techniques. Review of important health promotion theories and models. Application of behaviour modification to specific health problems - smoking, obesity and stress. Evaluation of health maintenance programs - smoking cessation, weight control, stress management, exercise, assertion and moderate or controlled drinking.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Discuss the significance of the role of behavioural factors in health and disease. Develop a conceptual framework to analyse the determinants of health related behaviour. Examine and evaluate health enhancing behaviours and preventative lifestyle factors. Analyse the role of responsibility for health and the barriers to effective health behaviour change. Synthesise the processes and conditions of behaviour change. evaluate and synthesise different models and theoretical perspectives of health behaviour. Design an appropriate health behaviour assessment. Evaluate current methods and levels of interaction. Plan and implement appropriate health behaviour assessment. Evaluate different health care paradigms. Describe approaches to effective maintenance of health behaviour change.
