Syllabus:

Development of physiotherapy competencies in health management. Topics covered typically include - changes in health care systems, program development and evaluation, costs of physiotherapy services, marketing, quality assurance, business meetings, employment and legal issues.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Discussed the legal, industrial and ethical implications of practising physiotherapy within the context of the public and private health care systems in Western Australia and Australia. Discussedkey issues in health care management and administration from a local, national and international level, including models of health care delivery. Discussed the principles of accreditation - both physiotherapy specific and broader health system - and how these processes work in clinical practice. Identified key concepts/definitions relating to continuous quality improvement. Discussed and implemented basic principles of marketing health services. Demonstrated the ability to develop a health service program proposal and methods for its successful implementation - taking into consideration the demands for efficiency and effectiveness, consumer wants/demands/needs, and ethical and legal requirements.
