Syllabus:

Basic principles and use of a geographic information system. Data capture, data linking and data querying methods. Benefits of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in planning design. Entity types. Setting up and organising a computer. Drawing and input methods. Drawing creation. Entity modification and utility and drawing aid commands.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have become familiar with "what GIS is all about". Hands on experience using the MAPINFO GIS computer software. Identified and explored what is available on the Internet on GIS, how it is implemented and future trends in GIS.
