Syllabus:

Understanding the social structure of cities and the social processes that create the structure including notions of inclusion and exclusion. The relationship between population and housing characteristics. An introduction to the role of planning in impacting on social character.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Upon completion of this unit students will have developed an understanding of the socio economic structure of Perth's suburbs, introduction to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census of Population and Housing, and the demographic profiles of suburbs. Developed an understanding of comparative analysis of demographic profiles (inner, intermediate, outer and rural), and housing analysis (age, condition, cost, occupancy rate and tenure). Gained understanding of the relationship between housing and demographic analysis and suburban histories and suburban stories. Developed an understanding of library ABS data holdings (manipulation and extraction), and suburban futures.
