Syllabus: | Provide a basis for writing in a tertiary environment. Genres could include descriptive essay, cause and effect essay, advantage/disadvantage essay. Focused instruction on referencing conventions and development of information literacy. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed skills in essay planning, brain storming techniques and mind mapping. The ability to write a concise thesis statement. Knowledge of the basic components of writing an academic essay- introduction, body and conclusion, the use of cohesive devices within and between paragraphs, peer conferencing and writing in specified genres. |
