Syllabus: | A broad history of the use and cultural differences influencing the design of furniture across cultures. The changing nature of the production of furniture in the 19th and 20th century. Differences in design between hand crafted and machine produced pieces. Modern processes and production methods. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Been introduced to the historical and contemporary concepts of furniture and it's place in broader social history. An appreciation of the influence of cultural development and technology on the development of furniture. Been encouraged in the use of theoretical research and resourcefulness. |
