Syllabus: | Conceptually-based, focusing on three generic structural systems. They are introduced and examined in terms of theory, examples, techniques and applications. Tutorials provide a number of project-based exercises concerned with the use of the three structural systems in conceptual architectural design. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- The ability to understand and be able to explain and manipulate the three basic Structural Systems- Solid, Skeletal and Surface. To understand the principles of how different materials operate, the differing qualities inherent in them and spatial atmospheres conditioned by them. An understanding of the role of construction, structures and materials in the Design Process. |
