Syllabus: | Information policy development, the history and components of the information industry, the advent and role of the Internet, why and how we communicate in the information environment and the role of the information professional. Contains a period of practicum for those intending to undertake a major professional within information studies. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the diversity and impact of the information industry in society. An awareness of the human communication processes and development of thinking in this area. An understanding of the concepts of information access and equity and censorship. An awareness of the complexities of policy discussions in the information environment. An understanding of the role of the information professional in information flow and future trends for the information environment. |
