Syllabus:

Collection development, written collection development policies, collection measurement and evaluation, the Distributed National Collection, national library and information infrastructure, user evaluation, selection procedure, selection aids, document delivery, alternative forms of publication and access, electronic periodicals, aggregation, consortia, storage and retrieval of collections, weeding, preservation and conservation, censorship.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Made assessments as to the current value of a library collection. Selected material appropriate to the needs of a particular user group. Developed and managed a collection of printed and electronic material held by a library or information centre. Considered that particular collection in the context of national and international collections. Used emerging information techniques in order to supplement locally held collections.
