Syllabus:

An overview of the use of computers and communication technologies to manage personal and professional information. Covers the basics of networked computing, discovering and using electronic resources, Internet search engines, evaluation of Internet resources, database creation, data sharing and manipulation, image formats and multimedia, desktop and document management, personal bibliographic software, interactive use of the World Wide Web, virtual libraries and archives, computer security, ICT technologies and society.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have the ability to manage the use of their own computers effectively. Described the functions of major software types and apply them appropriately. Searched for electronic resources using the full functions of search engines. Evaluated electronic information resources. Manipulated electronic data and built a personal electronic databank. Evaluated the effects of the development of information and communication technologies on society.
