Syllabus: | Further develops students' communicative competence in the Chinese language over a wider range of situations. Conversation, readings, discussions and report writing will be conducted on topics in relation to contemporary Chinese society. The cultural significance of idioms as linguistic devices will be examined. Some monumental events in Chinese history and their impact on contemporary Chinese society will also be introduced for discussion. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Taken part in specific purpose interviews. Conducted conversations in a manner appropriate to the customs of Chinese speaking communities. Read short articles written in simplified and/or traditional scripts on contemporary Chinese society. Written short reports or summary of discussions on a variety of topics covered in this semester. |
