Area: | Department of Mechanical Engineering |
Credits: | 12.5 |
Contact Hours: | 4.0 |
Lecture: | 1 x 2 Hours Weekly |
Tutorial: | 1 x 1 Hours Weekly |
Laboratory: | 1 x 1 Hours Weekly |
Prerequisite(s): | 11964 (v.4) Engineering Dynamics 134 or any previous version
|
Syllabus: | Simple harmonic motion and moments of inertia of complex bodies. Power transfer systems including Hooke's joints, belt drives, friction clutches, simple and compound gear train analysis and epicyclic gears. Balancing of rotating masses - static and dynamic balance. Field balancing of rigid rotors. Engine balancing including multicylinder inline and V-engines. |
|
Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have developed competence in determining mass moments of inertia of mechanical components using calculations and pendulum and filament suspension methods and in modeling typical mechanical power transfer systems. They will also be able to statically and dynamically balance single and multiplane rigid rotors and calculate the imbalance forces of multi-cylinder reciprocating engines. |
