Syllabus:

Applications of differential calculus. Integral calculus - indefinite and definite integration, Simpson's rule, areas, applications. Vectors - basic ideas, component form, equation of a line, scalar product, applications. Wherever possible learning will be reinforced with the use of computer software and/or graphics calculators. Bridging, not remedial in nature.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Based on knowledge obtained during the Mathematics 021 course, students will study some applications of differential and integral calculus and will obtain basic practical knowledge of vector geometry. Successful completion of this course will mean that students will have obtained a good understanding of the basics of Calculus so that further first-year tertiary studies in Calculus can be pursued.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

For each module: Worksheets 20%, Online Tests 10%, Final test 70%. The value for each module is: Module 1 - 60%, Module 2 - 40%. To complete the course satisfactorily, the total minimum result of each module must be greater than or equal to 35% while theoverall result must be greater than or equal to 50%. Students are required to sit for all tests.
