Syllabus:

Principles and practices of hatchery production of temperate and tropical marine species. Hatchery management techniques. Animal Husbandry techniques in hatchery. Broodstock management and conditioning. Hypophysation and spawning, larval rearing of marine and freshwater fish species. Production of live feed for commercial production of marine and freshwater fish fry.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will have - Understood the concept of critical period during larval rearing and optimal foraging approach. Developed skills in monitoring the health and growth dynamics of live feed. Developed skills in husbandry techniques of a given fish species. Understood the importance of live food and its nutritional status in larval fish rearing. Skills will have also developed in hypophysation techniques. Understood the general fish larvae/juvenile husbandry techniques. Developed skills in larval rearing of marine fish species and in monitoring managing water quality management during larval rearing. Compared the green water and clearwater larval rearing techniques. Worked as an effective team member.
