Syllabus: | Background to the physical, mechanical and engineering properties of rocks and the nature of deformational processes sufficient to form a sound geological basis for later courses in rock mechanics for mining engineering students and structural geology for geology students. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have had a comprehensive understanding of the content of the syllabus sufficient to complete all practical work and assignments to the satisfaction of the unit coordinator and to achieve a pass mark inany theory examination based on the subject matter. |
