Syllabus: | Introduction to a variety of plant and animal groups in Western Australia and will look at the relationships between them and their environmental significance. Introduction to field techniques and methods of sampling ecosystems. A field trip early in thesemester is a vital component. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Identified the classifying system for living organisms. Explained the major groups into which all organisms are placed, the binomial nomenclature and the species concept. An understanding of ecology and ecological principles including food chains, food webs and biogeochemical cycles. |
