Syllabus:

Examination of the impact of economic rationalism and corporate managerialism on school restructuring and reform. The identification and critical assessment of major issues concerned with school development. Examination of strategic planning and school-level change management. Analysis of competing models of school development/improvement. Linking whole school approaches with curriculum and classroom practice. School development from the classroom up.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Expressed the ideas, language and terminology associated with effective schooling and school improvement literature. Identified and assess key policy initiatives prompting school restructuring. Examined the strategies and processes associated with managing school-level change. Examined the process of strategic planning for school improvement. Critically assessed the usefulness of a range of school improvement approaches. Identified the implications school improvement endeavours hold for the work of educational leaders and teachers. Assessed the importance of current issues and trends for school improvement.
