Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed a method of clinical examination of patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the peripheral joints and related structures. Applied biomedical knowledge relating to anatomy, biomechanics and pathology into clinical practice to assist the diagnosis of common disorders which have relevance to musculoskeletal practice. Developed a process of obtaining and interpreting relevant information from the patients and used this as a basis for planning and implementing a logical process of physical examination. Had an introduction to the process of clinical decision making in relation to indications for treatment and treatment prescription based on the clinical examination findings. Applied commonmethods of physical treatment and related patient management including joint mobilisation, massage, muscle stretching and strengthening, therapeutic exercise and taping. Identified intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing to the development or perpetuation of the disorder and assisted patients to manage these factors independently. |
