Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to efficiently and accurately perform a range of laboratory procedures, appreciate the need for safe working practices in the laboratory, perform a range of mathematical calculations related to the manipulation and interpretation of data and write, draw and name structures of organic compounds. They will have gained familiarity with the characteristic reactions of functional groups, an understanding of the principles of chromatography, be able to calculate the pH of various solutions and understand the concept of a buffer solution. |
