Syllabus: | Soils - revision, landcare, soils of Western Australia. Description, classification and mapping - survey technique. Soil variability and problem soils. Physics of soil water movement. Ecological aspects of land use, multiple and conservative use. Productivity and stability in land use systems. Land use planning, suitability, capability and evaluation. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Identified major soil groups in Western Australia and discuss physical, chemical and biological characteristics of each as related to land use planning and landcare. Applied survey technique to characteriseand map soils and recognise the productivity and land capability for selected agricultural soil landscape units. Describe principles of Property Management Planning (PMP) under physical management and financial components. Discussed aspects of soil hydrology as related to soil water movement and landuse capability. |
